Mmmm, pizza – the perfect treat! I’ve never been a fan of the delivered kind, as I hate hate hate deep pan. I’m more of a lover of Franco Manco-style thin and crispy. But I can’t afford Franco Manco, so Mr. Saver and I set up the Penny Pincher Pizzeria in our kitchen last night!
The most important parts of a pizza are the dough (duh) and the tomato sauce. A dodgy one of these will lead to disappointment. To make the dough, we used this recipe here.
Penny Pincher Pizzeria Pizza Sauce
1 tin of tomatoes
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1tsp mixed herbs
Pinch of salt
Grind of black pepper
Put all this in a slow cooker and leave to cook on low all day, coming home to the delicious tomato scent wafting from the kitchen.
The secret to getting a good pizza is the high cooking temperature, so we cranked the oven all the way up and put a rack on the highest setting, putting a baking tray in to heat up.
Once you’ve made the dough, chop it in half and freeze it, ready for another time. Roll out the remaining dough and transfer to baking paper. We rolled ours out so it was rectangular to fit on our tray better.
Now, add the sauce and get topping! We went for simple and delicious:
Transfer the pizza to the oven and keep a close eye on it as it cooks super fast. Our took about 7 minutes until it was done.
Tuck in and enjoy your trip to the Penny Pincher Pizzeria!
